In 1959 John Davis and John Stevens wished to start a one-design class of sailboat racing on Long Lake. They originally were considering either the C Scow or the M16 Scow. John Stevens purchased a M16, it turned out to be a fine boat. John Davis bought one and the start of one-design class racing began in 1962.
The Dohrs bought another boat, and by 1966 four more were added to the Lake.
In the beginning years racing was raced around rafts as buoys with no committee boat. The Club was formed in 1966 and the first formal races took place.
In 1967 our club was recieved in the Inland Lake Yachting Association (ILYA) with a designation of WL (Wisconsin Long).
The club grew to nearly 30 registered M16's in the late 60's & 70's. Although the numbers are smaller lately, we continue to have an active fleet.
The single handed MC scow was added to the fleet in the 1999 and we now have around a dozen registered M16 & MC boats.
In 2002 we hosted the ILYA National Invitational M16 Regatta.
